What “Priced Under Value” Means, and How to Use It

Buscar.Autos ranks cars by how far under their estimated value they are priced. Here is what that means and where its limits are.

How the estimate works

For each car, we compare its price with similar cars listed for sale: the same make and model, close in year and mileage. That gives an estimated fair value. The gap between the asking price and that value is what puts a car near the top of your list.

Confidence matters

An estimate is only as good as the comparable cars behind it. Popular models with many listings give a stronger estimate than a rare car with few. When there is little to compare with, we say so instead of showing a number that looks more certain than it is.

What the estimate cannot see

  • The condition of the car, accident history and maintenance.
  • Whether the paperwork is clean.
  • Whether the seller will really sell at the listed price.

A low price is a reason to look

Treat a car priced well under its value as a shortlist entry. Sometimes it is a bargain, and sometimes there is a reason for the low price. Check the plate, the paperwork and the car itself, and use our checklist before you pay.

Your priorities count too

Value is one part of a good choice. Each search also lets you say how much price, mileage, age and other details matter to you, so the ranking reflects what you care about, not just the cheapest car.
